Back in 1985, a man from Canada, unknown to the basketball world, first got recognition after being traded to the top team, the Chicago Bulls. Then and there, Michael Smrek’s astonishing career boomed as the basketball prodigy and he made 38 appearances alongside the former basketball legend Michael Jordan. But this is not the end of the tale.
Years after the remarkable career ending of his father with two NBA championships, Michael Smrek’s daughter keeps the legacy of excellence alive. Being a part of the Wisconsin Badgers women’s volleyball team, Anna Smerk is not only contributing to the collection of the team’s wins but also adding feathers to the family’s cap of accolades.
Wisconsin’s Anna Smrek receives the honor ahead of the NCAA semifinals
As the Badgers team is all girded up to lock horns with the Longhorns, the Wisconsin team celebrated Anna Smrek’s incredible spree ahead of the showdown. Interestingly, Smrek received her first All-American honor as a Badger and made many heads turn her way. Expressing their elation on Smrek’s accolade, Wisconsin Volleyball took to its X handle to celebrate her achievement. They penned, “Get SMREKd Congratulations anna_smrekk on your first All-American honor!”
Anna is adding All-American to her collection, which already features MVP of the 2021 NCAA Championship and 2021 UW Most Improved Player. Nevertheless, in the 2023 season, she has played in 30 matches, has double-figure kills in 12 matches-hitting a season-best .396, which ranks second on the team, third in the Big Ten and 23rd in the NCAA.
In addition to Anna Smrek, another of Wisconsin’s key players has managed to secure All-American this season. Interestingly, Sarah Franklin has also grabbed the honor of the 2023 All-American.
Cardinal and Whites are playing exceptionally well on the volleyball court. The collaborative efforts by the team are not only visible on the court but are also gaining recognition. However, this is only some of what is expected from Wisconsin’s Badgers volleyball team. Being arch-rivals to the Nebraska Huskers, Badgers are anticipated to compete with the Huskers soon. But, for that, the team has to reach the finals.
NCAA Semifinals: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Texas
Wisconsin Badgers are celebrating a double triumph this week as the team not only made it to the semifinals but also achieved All-American status for two of its key players. However., the triumph is only limited. Wisconsin Badgers are scheduled to face off against Texas Longhorns in the upcoming NCAA Semifinal Showdown.
If Wisconsin is defeated in the semifinal showdown, it will not only kill the spectators’ expectations of seeing Wisconsin against Nebraska but also eliminate the team from the NCAA this season. Nonetheless, if the Wisconsin Badgers win the showdown, it will be seen locking horns in an enthralling showdown against the Nebraska Huskers. But ahead of the semifinals showdown, Badgers indeed have a multitude of reasons for celebrating, one being Anna Smrek’s All-American honor.
