The University of Texas football team is being mocked online after its official Twitter account boasted about their collective GPA this semester.
On Sunday, the Texas Longhorns proudly tweeted: 'More than football. Highest semester GPA in team history.'
The words were accompanied by an image that revealed that the average GPA for players this semester was 2.89 — which commenters have pointed out is not really all that impressive, especially considering it's supposedly the best the team has ever done since it was founded in 1893.
Viral: The University of Texas football team is being mocked after a tweet revealing that their current 2.89 GPA is the 'highest semester GPA in team history'
More than 2,200 Twitter users have commented on the post, roasting the Texas Longhorns football team for being proud of the GPA.
One user said: 'I can't believe someone thought it was a good idea to tweet this.'
'I probably would have left off the GPA,' wrote another, while a third added: 'Why would you broadcast this on the internet?'
'This is utterly pathetic. I kick players off of my youth football team for even making the honor roll, because it means they aren't focused on football,' one more said.
Some noted the reputation that college athletes have for taking easy 'joke' classes in an effort to maintain their GPAs, writing: ''Y'all are really bad at bowling and pottery classes.'
Another Twitter user, who is a fan of the football team, said the score is 'not something to brag about'.

ShareWoah: The tweet has gone viral, receiving thousands of comments from people making fun of the team for their score, which lies between a B and B minus
He said: 'I'm a Longhorn forever, and good job on the highest team GPA, but a C+ average at a school like UT is not something to brag about.'
In response, another user said: 'Actually, it's between a B and B- minus average, but let's not facts get in the way of throwing shade.'
One user jokingly said: 'Everyone in the comments needs to stop. The Longhorns social media manager doesn't have the math skills to know what a 2.89 GPA means.'
However, several others jumped to the football team's defense.
'So I see Texas football is receiving a lot of criticism for their graphic citing that a 2.89 was their best semester GPA,' one user said.
'If you all knew the rigors of some of these schools vs the backgrounds of these young men you would understand that why that is an outstanding number,' he added.
Similarly, another said: 'Nothing makes me more upset then hearing people criticize that. They have no idea what these young men go through on a daily basis. 2.89 is damn impressive. Well done UT.'
Unimpressed: Many Twitter users have deemed the football team's (pictured) GPA 'nothing to brag about,' with some saying the score is 'pathetic'
Defense: Other Twitter users have jumped to the football team's defense, with several stating that the 2.89 GPA is 'impressive' and 'outstanding'
Another user hit back at the comments, saying: 'Y'all out here laughing about the highest semester GPA on the Texas football team, meanwhile y'all can’t even get your GPA high enough to pledge with no extracurriculars.
'I mean we're making jokes about it, but if Texas is actually trying to get their football team GPA up that’s an accomplishment in and of itself,' another said.
'So many of these historically great football schools couldn’t care less about academics,' he added.
The university's website states that a 2.89 GPA lies between a B and a B minus.
According to 247 Sports, the team's GPA includes the combined grade point average of all members of the Texas football program who are enrolled in classes for the spring 2019 semester.
There are currently approximately 90 members enrolled in the program.
