UFC color commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan has always been a man of varied interests. His podcast offers a variety of interesting debates and discussions on the various aspects of life and nature. Rogan recently shared an article on Twitter about a man killing a Kodiak bear. In the incident, a retired coast guardsman by the name of Kris Heilman, who moved to Kodiak Island in early 2022, shot his first bear on Kodiak island. The incident occurred in the middle of the night amidst a storm.

Heilman was a member of the Coast Guard’s tactical law enforcement team, based in Miami, Florida. He later moved to Bells Flats after retirement. It was situated an estimated 10 miles southwest of Kodiak in Alaska. That archipelago is known to be the home of at least 3,500 brown bears. Hence, it is normal for people living on those islands to encounter the beast.

Fans react to Joe Rogan’s tweet

Many fans reacted to Joe Rogan’s post and made some hilarious remarks. Some agreed with the use of guns for self-defense in such incidents, while others believed guns shouldn’t be used. Some people also acknowledged Alaska’s bear incidents.

Here are some of the reactions from Twitter users:

  • It’s why the US constitution was drafted! (Schools and assault rifles were not mentioned)
  • But guns are just bad mmmkay
  • Mark Alaska off my bucket list
  • kodak moment
  • With a 12 gauge lol that had to be to close for comfort.
  • Those things can be 10 ft tall and 1500lbs!
  • A 12 gauge pump action shotgun is the best home defense weapon. Load it with a mix of 00 buck and slugs.

Users on Twitter did make remarks about having to worry about wild animals while living in Alaska. Most bear attacks come from the Kodiak Islands.

Joe Rogan interviewed a bear attack survivor on his podcast

Joe Rogan had TV host Remi Warren as his guest on the Joe Rogan Experience #1060, where Warren talked about his encounter with a bear. Warren told Rogan that he’d been around a lot of wild animals in his life, even being charged by a bear. But the TV personality also talked about those times when there is a gut feeling that things may not end.

“We’re on Afognak island. Afognak Island has one of the largest bears in the world. They’re brown bears,” said Warren.

He further continued, “We’re hunting elk there. My brother and myself had hunted elk on that island before and it’s just a miserable place to be.” Warren talked about the bear that attacked him was about eleven and a half feet tall and was shot a couple of weeks later.

“When the bear ran in, it was six of us sitting kind of in like a semi-circle, and when that bear came in, we did that scatter effect.” They attempted to confuse the bear with their strength in numbers. The bear wasn’t able to get any of the six guys and they ran safely from that area.
