AMCs The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, featuring the return of beloved characters Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) from the original series, has released a new teaser.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” featuring the return of beloved characters Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) from the original series, has released a new teaser.

The series is the next installment of the popular “The Walking Dead” franchise and will premiere Feb. 25, 2024, on both AMC and AMC+. Lincoln and Gurira serve as executive producers along with showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.

“‘The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’ presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead … And ultimately, a war against the living,” the show description reads. “Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

Lincoln left “The Walking Dead” in 2018 after nearly ten years of starring as the protagonist and former cop Rick Grimes, who later married tough, katana-wielding Michonne. The filming schedule in Georgia, he said, made it difficult for him to focus on spending time with his family back in England.

“I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older,” Lincoln previously told EW Radio. “It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”

Lincoln’s character disappeared during Season 9 — in which he was presumed dead — while Gurira’s character left during Season 10. Both later made cameos in the 2022 season finale, hinting at their upcoming spin-off. Lincoln addresses his absence from “The Walking Dead” universe in the new trailer.

“People are going, ‘Where have you gone?” Lincoln acknowledges. “Our ambition is to have some answers.”

“It’s a really exciting story to tell,” says Gurira. “These two people are so powerful and together it’s insane. This is some crazy love.”
