Richard Curtis' latest rom-com is set on the pirate station Radio Rock, based on the '60s Radio Caroline which was broadcast from a boat in the middle of the North Sea. Radio Rock's band of rogue DJs crank up the pop and rock from the high seas 24-hours a day, and include The Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman) - a legendary American, Gavin (Rhys Ifans) - the mystic deejay royalty, and Dave (Nick Frost) as the sarcastic love deejay. Joining the eclectic mix is Carl (Tom Sturridge) who, recently expelled from school, has been sent by his mother (Emma Thompson) to find some direction in life by visiting his godfather, Radio Rock's owner, Quentin (Bill Nighy). Meanwhile wanting to shut down the station and put a stop to all of the ship's shenanigans is the stiff government official Minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh), the archetypal moustachioed villain, and more a caricature than believable character.

There's no denying that there's an amazing cast "on-board" this project and film is very funny in places; though it tends to be more a series of sketches than a plot-driven whole. The music is the real star however and the soundtrack rocks!

Released: 1 April
