Allow us to introduce you to the Chanels, the similarly named mean girls at the center of executive producer Ryan Murphy‘s new horror series on Fox, “Scream Queens” — come fall, you’ll be dying to be part of their clique.
Emma Roberts stars as Chanel Oberlin, the queen bee of Kappa Kappa Tau. “She isn’t exactly the nicest person, definitely not warm and fuzzy,” says Roberts. “She’s a b—-, for lack of a better word.” Never fear, though, Roberts promises there’s still plenty of humor in store. “‘Scream Queens’ is horror, but it’s a dark comedy,” she adds. “We were surprised by how funny the script is.”
Ariana Grande plays sorority sister Chanel #2. “She’s a loyal friend… she’s the most timid of the group,” says Grande. “She might be the safest, least daring one of the group.”
What’s Chanel #2’s goal? “I don’t know if she has goals. I think she’s just happy being a part of the group.”

Billie Lourd is Chanel #3, another one of Chanel’s “sassy” minions. “It’s ‘Mean Girls’ meets ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre,'” says Lourd of the series, her first TV show. “It’s ‘Heathers.’ You’ve gotta see ‘Heathers.'”

Lourd says she had a great time working with her castmates, despite their onscreen misbehavior. “The show is about a mischievous group of ladies in a sorority who do some naughty things sometimes,” she adds with a giggle.
The final member of the group is Abigail Breslin, as the “conservative, a little uptight” Chanel #5.
“She’s smart and cunning and sociopathic and a little bit insane, and it’s exactly what I hoped it would be,” says Breslin. “I’ve never played a mean girl before… It’s my goal to just be evil and be a mean girl and it’s just been so exciting… It’s such a dream job for me.”
Admit it, you’re already planning your Chanel-inspired Halloween costume, right?
“Scream Queens” premieres Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on Fox with a two-hour debut, before shifting to its regular 9 p.m. timeslot from Sept. 29.
