Actress Actress Renata Vanni died Feb. 19 of natural causes in Los Angeles. She was 94. Born in Naples, Italy, Vanni started her career in Italian theater and on Italian radio in New York. In the late 1940s, Warner Bros. brought her under contract to Los Angeles, where she became known as a comedic actress.

Actress Renata Vanni died Feb. 19 of natural causes in Los Angeles. She was 94.

Born in Naples, Italy, Vanni started her career in Italian theater and on Italian radio in New York.

In the late 1940s, Warner Bros. brought her under contract to Los Angeles, where she became known as a comedic actress.

She played the Italian widow in William Wellman’s “Westward the Women.” She went on to appear in features including “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “A Patch of Blue,” “The Idol Maker” and Anne Bancroft’s “Fatso.”

After appearing in several live television shows, Vanni moved on to episodic TV. She frequently appeared on such shows as “Gunsmoke,” “Love Boat” and “The Mod Squad,” as well as in a recurring role as Marlo Thomas’ landlady on “That Girl.”

More recently she appeared in features “Lady in White” and “Wait Until Spring, Bandini.”

Vanni is survived by her daughter, actress Delia Salvi, who is also a professor at UCLA’s Film and Television Dept.
