A new TikTok trend involves mostly women spontaneously asking their boyfriends and husbands to name the first woman that comes to mind. Many aggravated reactions to their partners' choices — and not naming them — have gone viral, as a slew of commenters help judge whether the responses are green or red flags.
A psychologist told Insider that women are likely using this challenge as an "innocuous" test to "tap into their partner's unconscious" and see who's at the top of their brain.
Many of the top clips feature women looking horrified after hearing their boyfriend or husband name a celebrity. In one video with over 2.2 million views, a woman's husband responds "Zendaya" when asked.
The poster, @yolandaadizz, walks away both amused and offended.
@yolandaadiazzIn his defense, me too 🥲

"In his defense, me too," she wrote in the description with a crying emoji.
In another video, the user @allenoel554 wrote that her man "failed" after he said Megan Fox. The woman wrote on-screen that she was "gonna start an argument" over his pick. Similarly, the influencer Brooklyn McKnight reacted in lighthearted horror after she prompted her partner and he said "Taylor."
"Not me? Not Brooklyn?" she asked him.
"Oh, sorry," he said.
@brooklynandbaileyNOT TALOR SWIFT😩😭 I cant compete!! #nameawoman #husband #wife #husbandwife #taylorswift

"I'm DONE with him," she wrote in the description.
As these light-hearted "challenge" videos go mega-viral this week, Yasmine Saad, a licensed clinical psychologist, told Business Insider that there could be more serious interpretations and dynamics happening in them.
Saad suspects a woman participating in the challenge could feel betrayed or triggered by her partner's response, like if the man says the name of a woman in whom she suspects he's interested. The man could also fail the test by saying the name of a woman who's hurt her, Saad added.
"In all cases, this challenge is based on the idea that there is something hidden and by asking an innocuous question, their partner will either pass a test or not," Saad said. "Depending on the answer, the partner is either betraying the woman or is not triggering negative emotions and therefore passing the test."
While some women have filmed themselves reacting dramatically to their partners, the overall tone of the challenge is silly and unserious.
Cate Kowalsky, 30, went hugely viral after prompting her 33-year-old husband Joe, who surprisingly named the civil rights activist Susan B. Anthony.
Despite people saying the trend is "a way to start a fight," Kowalsky told Business Insider she thought it was "a fun way to see how your partner's brain works."
She said she could see how the trend could get contentious if a boyfriend or husband named his ex, for example.
"I know my husband and he's not on social media at all, so I knew his response would be absolutely chaotic," she added.
@sierraxnoelcant argue with that!! #trend #nameawoman

"She's a woman," he defended his answer.
While most commenters have also taken the challenge in jest, some TikTok users passed judgments on whether the picks should be concerning. In response to the "Madison" video, for instance, commenters theorized about who he meant, with many speculating that it was the singer Madison Beer.
Other women left comments saying they tried the test on their partners and were amazed by the results. People said their men gave an assortment of answers: from the fictional children's characters Junie B. Jones to Harriet Tubman, to Martha Stewart, to Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
"This has gone from 'is my man cheating' to 'what historically important woman does he sometimes remember exists' and I love it," one person wrote.
