Golf is amongst the rarest sport where players can drink alcohol during a round. Despite its worldwide viewership and popularity, there is no affirmant rule in place that disallows golfers to have a sip between games. But in a recent Twitter post, fans were asked about their drinking habits while golfing. Do amateurs tend to drink on golf courses?

Do golfers drink on a golf course?

The PGA Tour’s policy is to restrict its players from drinking on the course, since its live coverage captures every moment of the game. With an audience that includes school kids and youngsters, watching their idols having a sip of alcohol could have a damaging impact on their future.

However, golf’s historical and conservative touch has never faded away, which allows some age-old rules to creep into the sport. Among them is the practice of drinking between holes, which the tour hasn’t completely ruled out as an offense.

But for budding golf enthusiasts and amateurs, having a glass of beer could hardly be considered a punishment. Thousands of fans across the world play golf as a leisure activity, and drinking a glass of wine won’t be a problem for many, as long as the conduct remains subtle.

Golf netizens have their say about drinking during rounds

What did the fans have to say regarding their drinking habits during a round of golf? Among the many reactions, there were plenty of distinct answers.

For starters, many openly claimed that they drink between rounds, stating that their mindset became fresh for another run of golf.

What Debby Downers play golf without drinking a few cold beers? Why even play?

Maybe one beer but that's not even close to "drinking"? 🤣

However, there were a certain few who rejected the idea of drinking during their games. A user also mentioned that the habit was a rare one in Europe, where the only drink available in courses was water.

Water, of course, to avoid dehydration.

In Europe, it's not common to drink alcohol on a round of golf – only Americans do that.

Never. My son is a criminal attorney. Many of his cases are for drunken driving. Don’t want to be his next client.

Yes water. But I have seen supposed golfers pound down can after can of beer while playing. I’m talking 16 ouncers!

Moreover, there was another section of golfers who claimed that the drinks tasted better after finishing up their rounds of golf. Here’s a selection of their tweets:

Not usually. I play better plus the beer tastes better after. I’ve seen guys down a beer a hole and play scratch golf. Crazy.

No I do not. I don’t find it adds anything to my game or score. I leave that for the 19th hole!

Amongst professional golfers, two-time major championship winner, John Daly, was known for his drinking and smoking habits during games. Nicknamed ‘The Wild Thing’ for his party nature, the 56-year-old even claimed that he played his best golf while being drunk.
